i emotionally connect with this cat
except it looks like somebody’s holding kitty by the scruff of its neck and not providing any other support causing stress and possibly pain.
but hey, at least it looks cute holding that pizza, right.
Uhhh cats get held like that often it actually relaxes them not causing pain…
that’s a common misconception
it does cause them discomfort and pain; especially if it’s not done with support or done safely.
I think you should read some of these articles: [here] [here] [here] [here] (there are more but I’d be here all day)
Vets learn to do it professionally; there is a knack to doing it. It doesn’t ‘relax’ them, it paralyses them, making it easier for them to be transported and handled for the mother cat. But doing it to a kitten and an adult cat is different, and you are not a mother cat.
Please don’t hold your adult cats (and even kittens) like this. If you insist on doing it, make sure you learn how to do it safely.
It relaxes kittens, when they’re often carried by their mothers and being calm is important, but if an adult cat were caught by a predator at the scruff of their neck, it would be fatal for them to be relaxed by it. A kitten’s body weight is small enough for the skin at their neck to support them without pain: they tuck their little legs and tails up automatically to make carrying easier. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen an adult cat be carried at the scruff, but they don’t tuck themselves up, because it would be dangerous for them to instinctively behave this way if they were being carried away by a predator. Their body is much heavier and the scruff too small to provide adequate support.
Scruffing should only be done during medical examinations, emergencies, times when it’s crucial that the cat stay still, not to take cutesy pictures for a stupid website.
^^ All of that good information.
I just wanted to add that looking at the top left gif, the way the cat’s haunches are visible seems, in my opinion, to indicate that someone is supporting its booty. Its legs are neither stretched down towards the ground nor are they tucked up to its body, the thighs seem to be perpendicular to the floor/table and the tummy is relaxed and curved inward. IMO it looks like someone is indeed supporting the kitty in this gif.
